Alexander Kauffman is a curator, educator, and organizer. Since 2020, he is an organizer at AFSCME DC47 in Philadelphia. Recent exhibitions include The Duchamp Family at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (co-organized with Matthew Affron) and Rethinking the Modern Monument at Philadelphia’s Rodin Museum. Alex was the Andrew W. Mellon-Anne d’Harnoncourt Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from 2018 to 2020, the Andrew W. Mellon Graduate Fellow in Modern and Contemporary Art from 2013 to 2014, and a member of the museum’s curatorial team for the traveling exhibition Dancing around the Bride: Cage, Cunningham, Johns, Rauschenberg, and Duchamp in 2012. He has also held positions at the Museum of Modern Art, University of Pennsylvania, Penn Museum, and studio of Laurie Anderson. Alex holds a B.A. summa cum laude from New York University and an M.A. and Ph.D in the history of art from the University of Pennsylvania.
